The Hyundai Eon and Maruti Alto K10 are the two most desirable hatchbacks in the Indian auto market, struggling hard to prove their dominance. Maruti Suzuki has already earned a good reputation over the country’s entry-level car segment where the Hyundai comes with its very first compact car ‘Hyundai Eon’.

Maruti Alto K10 is the refreshed version of the company’s bestselling ‘Alto’ that has got few cosmetic and technical modifications, but doesn’t make any distinction. This hatchback is highlighted for its powerful engine alignment offering better fuel efficiency and driving quality. On the other side, the new fluidic sculpture of the Hyundai Eon feels like the fresh breeze having lots of flowing lines across the entire chassis.

There is nothing extravagant with the Alto K10 that carrying the contemporary grey-black color scheme with all standard features. The new front seat design and available extra keen room for the rear seat passengers doesn’t feel fresh. The lack of stereo integration and relatively congested passenger space may annoy the buyers those are looking for some extra comfort and luxury.

Powertrain, Performance & Efficiency
Under the bonnet, the new Hyundai Eon features 841cc engine developing a maximum power of 56PS at 55oorpm and torque of 74.5Nm at 4000rpm. But, here the Alto K10 leads the race that comes powered with a more powerful 1.0 litre, 998cc engine offering a peak power of 68PS at 6200rpm and torque of 90Nm at 3500rpm.

It delivers mileage of 20.2 kmpl, relatively lower than the Eon’s small engine that offers an ARAI tested mileage of 21.1kmpl. The Maruti Alto K10 is superior in terms of engine performance but, the maintenance cost is almost similar for both the vehicles.

Ride & Handling
Both the hatchbacks sharing same suspension setup of MacPherson at the front and torsion beam at the rear side. Still, the Hyundai Eon offers more practical and smoother drive on rough Indian roads. The power steering of Alto is far better than the Eon’s.

Features & Verdict
The two variants of Maruti Alto K10 are available for the buyers namely LXi and VXi. Its LXi affairs with the power steering and air conditioning system, priced around Rs.3.30 lakhs (ex-showroom in Mumbai). Whereas, the Alto VXi comes with some extra functional integrations like front fog lamps, an electronic trip meter, front power windows and central locking. It costs around Rs.3.43 lakhs (ex-showroom in Mumbai).

The Hyundai Eon’s buyers are available with six options including Hyundai Eon D-Lite, Eon D-Lite (O), Eon Era, Eon Magna, Eon magna (O) and Eon Sportz. These all variants are available within the price range starting from Rs.2.83 lakhs to Rs.3.89 lakhs (ex-showroom in Mumbai).

Despite, the powerful engine integration the Alto K10 feels feeble against the new Hyundai Eon, which is superior in terms of comfort, luxury, elegance and power.
